Outdoor Research Diode Jacket Review

In this video review, I take a look at the Outdoor Research Diode Jacket.  This is one of the few puffy coats purpose built for climbers and belaying.  It’s packed full of features and has synthetic insulation on the highest points of wear and a down/synthetic blend around the torso.  A great hood, velcro wrist closures, chest pocket, two fleece lined hand pockets, and two large interna…

Cypher Codex Review

In this video review, I take a look at the Cypher Codex shoes.  These high performance slippers are designed for steep routes and bouldering, but also edge quite well.  The shoe is slightly higher volume, so if you are looking for a lower volume shoe, take a look at the Cypher Zero review.  The toe is aggressively downturned and the upper is synthetic.  Combine that with Vibram XS Gr…

Outdoor Research Radiant Hoody Review

In this video review, I take a look at the Outdoor Research Radiant Hoody.  This is a super versatile fleece that you can wear alone over a shirt for those cool Fall mornings or as a mid weight jacket under a storm shell while skiing in Winter.  This three season piece is trim fit and well designed with minimalist features like a tight hood, thumbholes, and one chest pocket.

I received…

Petzl Tikka Review

In this video, I review the Petzl Tikka headlamp.  This is an all new redesign for the Petzl Tikka for 2015.  The single LED emits 100 lumens on the high output setting.  There is also a low output setting for lighting objects close to you.  As with all Petzl headlamps, the strap, body and overall product is well designed, comfortable, and compact.

I received the headlamp from Verd…

Rocktown and LRC

The second half of our trip to Chattanooga was spent at Rocktown and then back to Stone Fort.  Rocktown was tough and burly, so we toured all the classic easy problems.  Our last day bouldering, we went back to LRC, where I had a great day and climbed harder than expected.

Rocktown tick list:

Lot Lizard (V1) – flash
Fly Dawg (V0) – flash
The Easy Way Out (V1) – flash

Singing Rock Penta Review

In this video review, I take a look at the Singing Rock Penta helmet.  This is an ultralight helmet that won’t break the bank!  An all foam construction with a thin shell makes it super durable and the light webbing harness and buckles are usable and functional.  Check it out!

I received the helmet from Liberty Mountain and Singing Rock for review, but don’t worry, you can’t buy my…

First Time at Stone Fort

This year, during the week of Thanksgiving, we changed our traditional family plans for a week of bouldering in Chattanooga, TN.  Our first three climbing days were spent at Little Rock City, aka Stone Fort.  This beautiful boulder field is situated on the edge of a golf course and has some of the finest sandstone boulders in the country.  All the amazing things I heard about LRC wer…

Singing Rock Garnet Review

In this video review, I take a look at the Singing Rock Garnet harness.  This is the perfect, four season harness.  The adjustable waist belt and leg loops can easily fit around thicker clothing if necessary.  The material is thin and light but very comfortable, the gear loops are excellent, and the material is slick, which adds to the durability.  Check it out!

I received t…

Fall Days at Central Endless

I spent last weekend at Central Endless, part of Endless Wall at the New River Gorge.  All of my time was dedicated to working a new project:  New World Order (12a).  This line is one of the best of the grade at the New.  Central Endless is packed with hard, but extremely high quality routes that attract a…
