Stone Fort and Rocktown 2017

In 2017, we spent Thanksgiving week down in Chattanooga to boulder at Stone Fort and Rocktown. This is the second year in a row we have done this and it was an amazing trip. The conditions were perfect, the rock was pristine, and I climbed my dream boulder problem. So…

Bridge Day 2016

Bridge Day at the New River Gorge is a great event where it’s legal for BASE jumpers to hurl themselves off the bridge for only one day a year.  This year, during the Bridge Day weekend, I climbed at Summersville Lake and Beauty…

Back to the Red

It had been years since our last trip to the Red River Gorge.  It was great to get back over Memorial Day weekend and get pumped on steep Kentucky sandstone!  It was super hot and humid but we missed this place and can’t wait to get…

Rain and Sun

One day it’s sunny and perfect, the next it’s raining.  That’s the name of the game during the Spring in West Virginia.  Despite some unpredictable weather, we still got three days of great climbing in!  Check out my latest video on my favorite climbing area, the New River…

It’s Been A While

It’s been quite a while since our last climbing trip!  Real life has got in the way but we managed to squeeze in a day at Coopers Rock, WV for some fun in the sun.  My climbing performance was a bit frustrating, but you can’t really complain about any day on t…

Early Season Endurance

Well… unfortunately my GoPro is back in California, hopefully being replaced.  After some technical difficulties, we are back to the old style of trip reports.  In an effort to get a good night’s rest, we left Friday night and headed straight to Fayetteville to stay with Chris and Spencer for the weekend.  My MO for this year is to send as many 5.11 routes as possible.  I f…

Projects at Coopers

Perfect sunny day at Coopers Rock!  The conditions were amazing:  moderate temps with low humidity and a light breeze.  Can’t get better than that for the end of February.  We ran into a bunch of friends from Pittsburgh and ended up working a few boulder problems together.  If you go to Coopers in the beginning part of the year, be sure to take your bike so you don’t have to walk all t…

A Week at the New

I spent a week at the new in mid February.  The weather wasn’t superb, but what can you ask for in February?!  We got out and sampled some stellar boulders at Interp, Substation, and Short Creek and tried hard at t…

Rocktown and LRC

The second half of our trip to Chattanooga was spent at Rocktown and then back to Stone Fort.  Rocktown was tough and burly, so we toured all the classic easy problems.  Our last day bouldering, we went back to LRC, where I had a great day and climbed harder than expected.

Rocktown tick list:

Fly Dawg (V0) – flash

First Time at Stone Fort

This year, during the week of Thanksgiving, we changed our traditional family plans for a week of bouldering in Chattanooga, TN.  Our first three climbing days were spent at Little Rock City, aka Stone Fort.  This beautiful boulder field is situated on the edge of a golf course and has some of the finest sandstone boulders in the country.  All the amazing things I heard about LRC wer…
